Knock Knock: New Music! 3/26/2018

Hello again and welcome back to Knock Knock: New Music! I'm your host, Kristen Eck.

We have some big holidays coming up at the end of the week. I am, of course, referring to National Turkey Neck Soup Day on Friday, followed by National Crayon Day on Saturday. Seriously, though.. Piano Day is this Thursday, March 29th. I'll have more about that later this week!

From the historical files, RCA introduced the 45-RPM record this week. The Clash released their first single in Great Britain and we saw album releases from Prince, Gorillaz, Social Distortion, Beck, Urban Dance Squad, and Amherst band Dinosaur Jr.

Speaking of Western Massachusetts, my first artist this week comes to us from Northampton. Indie Rock quartet, Speedy Ortiz features Sadie Dupuis on vocals, guitar, and synthesizers. She's joined by Andy Molholt on guitar, Darl Ferm on bass, and Mike Falcone on drums.

Dupuis has a master's degree in poetry and taught at U-Mass Amherst. She initially began writing and recording as a solo artist before expanding to a full band lineup in 2011. "Major Arcana" was the band's debut album in 2013, followed by very well received second LP, "Foil Deer" in 2015.

Speedy Ortiz sets-out on a U.S. tour beginning April 21st. They'll play at The Root Cellar in Greenfield, MA on May 16th and at Royale in Boston on June 26th. "Twerp Verse" is the 3rd album release from Speedy Ortiz. It comes out April 24th on Carpark Records. Check-out the official music video for the first single, "Lucky 88."

My second artist this week on Knock Knock: New Music is Car Seat Headrest. It started-off as the one-man musical endeavor of Leesburg, Virginia's Will Toledo in 2010. The name came from Toledo's method of recording his vocals in the backseat of his car on his early albums.

He would record & self-release eight albums and two EP's on Bandcamp before being signed to Matador Records in September of 2015. Since then, a full band has taken shape with Evan Ives on guitar & synths, Andrew Katz on drums, and Seth Dalby on bass.

Following the widely acclaimed "Teens Of Denial" LP in 2016, Toledo decided to go back and

re-imagine an album he first first released in 2011 with limited resources and equipment:

"Twin Fantasy." The newly envisioned record allowed access to a new wealth of recording techniques and accumulated musical experience. "Twin Fantasy (Face To Face)" was released last month and set off a wave of positive reviews. Let's have a look at the official music video for

"Nervous Young Inhumans."

That's this week's edition of Knock Knock: New Music! As we have reached the end of the month, here is the Spotify playlist for all of this month's musical selections. I hope you've enjoyed all of them. If you like what's going on here, tell your friends about it and put my website at KristenEckRadio.com on your list of favorites. Thanks so much for stopping by. Happy listening!
