We're getting into the final stretch here on the 31-Days of Halloween... 10 days... 10 songs left to go. We have a couple birthdays today. Actor Christopher Lloyd turns 80 today and actor Jeff Goldblum celebrates his 66th birthday. Both of these gentlemen have more time spent in Science Fiction than in Horror, but Goldblum did star in a very well done 1986 remake of "The Fly," that was both frightening and gross.
He was also in the 1978 remake of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers," which celebrates it's 40th anniversary later this year and in "Jurassic Park," which turned 25 back in June.
We'll stick to a general theme of creepiness for today's musical selection, which comes to us from Boston/Vermont band HUMANWINE. Anchored by the duo of Holly Brewer and Matt McNiss, this band weaves punk, folk, and theatrics into a truly unique musical experience. I first saw them open for The Dresden Dolls in Boston at Avalon in 2004. My favorite performances from HUMANWINE were a series of shows they played in a month-long residency at Lizard Lounge in Cambridge in 2010.
Let's go to their 2007 "Fighting Naked" album for one of their most popular songs, "Rivolta Silenziosa." With the dark growling vocals of Matt McNiss trading lines with a sometimes gothic sounding Holly Brewer, if this song doesn't fit in a Halloween playlist, then nothing does! It's waiting for you around the corner (in the darkness) on the 31-Days of Halloween playlist. Happy listening! - Kristen
