I consider myself a child-of-Summer, but I know many of you who are not. If you've about had it with the August heat & humidity here in New England I have a wondrous and snowy tune from Rob Burger to cool you off! Rob’s a composer & multi-instrumentalist originally from New York. He studied classical music & jazz at U-Mass and now calls Portland, Oregon home.
Burger has collaborated with a multitude of performers including Bill Frissell, Elvis Costello, Norah Jones, and Lou Reed. Over the past few years he’s been heavily involved with Iron And Wine.
“The Grid” is the new album from Rob Burger out now on Western Vinyl, and even though it’s still Summer I wanted to share this song with you. Featuring one of my favorite people in music, Laurie Anderson on vocals, this track paints a dark icy landscape with synthesizers & clarinets. A cello seems to tiptoe through a freshly fallen snow as Anderson muses about a storm and things we have lost.
This is one of my favorite songs of the year so far. It’s called “Souls of Winter” and it’s just been added to the Knock Knock: New Music playlist. Happy listening! -Kristen
