We're in the home-stretch of my 2019 Favorite-30 Countdown. Brooklyn singer-songwriter Sharon Van Etten was at Royale in Boston back in February promoting her new album, “Remind Me Tomorrow.” It was my first live show of the year.
Van Etten dedicated this song to her sister who was in the audience that night and then proceeded to blow the doors off the joint. It’s called “Seventeen” and in comes-in at #3.
At #2 is British indie-pop/alternative dance outfit Hot Chip. Their 7th LP, “A Bath Full Of Ecstasy” (there’s a concept) came out in June and this track became my favorite song of the Summer. It’s dancey… It’s infectious… I can’t even dance and I still love it! It’s called “Hungry Child.”
When Yeah Yeah Yeahs front-woman Karen O and super-producer Danger Mouse announced their new collaborative LP, “Lux Prima” they promised an album crafted around a journey rather than a destination and boy did they deliver. Check out the tune
“Turn The Light…” It’s my #1 favorite new song of 2019. "Lux Prima" is also my favorite album of the year... Check-out my album-review from back in April, which was my first official contribution to the Metacritic website. Happy New Year and happy listening!
